Biden Admin Bans Natural Gas In Fed Buildings

(TrueTrendNews.com) – Under a new rule, natural gas will not be allowed to be used in renovated and newly constructed federal buildings.

The Biden administration’s Department of Energy announced on Wednesday April 24 that the updated regulations are an effort to boost jobs, increase air quality, and limit pollution. The rule—called the Clean Energy for New Federal Buildings and Major Renovations of Federal Buildings Rule—is said to be an example of Biden’s White House “practicing what we preach,” according to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

She boasted that the regulation will assist houses and businesses throughout the United States by helping them “save money” through energy conservation, an effort that will now be imitated in “our own federal buildings.”

According to Brenda Mallory, chair of the federal Council on Environmental Quality, the initiative will impact over 300,000 buildings to produce more efficient energy and be more climate friendly. Under the guidance, federal agencies must slowly eliminate fossil fuels in both newly constructed and renovated federal offices by the year 2025. Five years after that, all fossil fuels are expected to be gone from each federal site.

Mallory also noted that the effort will serve to progress the president’s “ambitious” motivations with sustainability and positively impact the job market, taxpayers, and the overall health of individual communities. The rule imitates similar mandates made by states and cities, including New York City and Los Angeles, which have also prohibited the use of gas appliances from being installed in newly constructed buildings.

However, the updated rule contradicts earlier statements from the White House, such as a 2023 comment from Karine Jean-Pierre, who specified that Biden is not in favor of “banning gas stoves” and that this was not being done by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The rule’s origin is a 2007 piece of legislation called the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which bars the presence of fossil fuel energy systems by 2030. This provision was never enacted before now due to a failure to finalize the regulations.
