Dem Mayor Victimized After Bragging About Crime Reduction

(TrueTrendNews.com) – One week after a Democratic leader bragged about her city’s declining crime rate, her home was broken into by a violent criminal.

Mayor Karen Brass of Los Angeles delivered her annual State of the City address on April 15, during which she took time to emphasize how her team had “lowered crime” in the city during her time in office. Ironically, the mayor’s residence was then broken into on Sunday April 21.

Slightly before seven in the morning, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of an incident at the official residence of the city’s mayor, Getty House. Ephraim Hunter, 29, had reportedly broke through a window to get into the home and possibly went up to the second floor of the building before authorities arrived on the scene.

According to local law enforcement, Hunter was taken into custody without additional incident. He remains in jail with $100,000 bail and is expected to be dealt first-degree burglary charges in the near future.

Bass was present in the house at the time of the incident. However, she was not harmed, and nothing was stolen from the home. In a press conference that took place the day after the break-in, the mayor expressed that both herself and her family are “fine” and working to doing “everything” possible to keep the city safe.

Hunter has a history of violent crime convictions, which occurred in Massachusetts. In 2015, he was one of four suspects involved in beating a man to unconsciousness with various instruments—including a hammer—in the back of a van parked near Boston. Additionally, the Massachusetts native was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, for which he was sentenced five to seven years in jail.

Josephine Duaa, the suspect’s mother, told the L.A. Times that her son had moved to California to start over. However, she presumed he had been engaged in drug abuse and could be “scared.” She pleaded with “somebody” to “help him,” fearing he will “lose his mind.”
