San Diego Slated to Receive $39 Million to Support Illegals

(TrueTrendNews.com) – The city of San Diego is going to receive nearly $40 million to support illegal immigrants being dropped off in the city, relieving activists but frustrating Americans who are tired of the migrant crisis.

According to local news reports, the federal Department of Homeland Security will be providing almost $20 million of the donation, which is intended to financially support migrants who are waiting for the results of their immigration court cases.

The move was celebrated by Democratic Rep. Juan Vargas and the chair of the County Board of Supervisors, Nora Vargas, both of whom pointed to the importance of providing assistance for immigrants and working towards developing a more effective migrant transition center.

But others are not convinced the funding is a good thing. Jim Desmond, a supervisor from District Five, said the money would be better spent on “securing the border” and ensuring that federal border patrol agents can do their jobs and keep the number of immigrants to a manageable level.

Previously, in September 2023, Desmond called the United States’ immigration system a “failed” effort. Speaking specifically about San Diego’s overwhelming welcome of immigrants, the supervisor added that the city does not have the necessary resources to allow unlimited migrants inside and said that, once it has reached capacity, the city needs to “stop letting people in for a while.”

The controversy in San Diego comes amid ongoing tension around the country about immigration and border security, which is a top issue for American voters going into the 2024 presidential election. President Joe Biden’s “open border” policies have stirred up considerable backlash among citizens whose resources are being used to aid migrants and those who stand by former president Donald Trump’s promises to put an end to illegal immigration.

Since December 2023, Border Patrol officials have released 42,000 illegal immigrants into San Diego County, leaving the city scrambling to gather its limited resources to provide humanitarian aid while the migrants await the outcome of their immigration cases.
