US and Japan Partner for High Speed Rail Line in TX

(TrueTrendNews.com) – Leaders from the United States and Japan have agreed to go into business together in the construction of a high-speed railway in America that will operate Japanese bullet trains.

The decision comes after an April 10 meeting in Washington, D.C. President Joe Biden is reportedly looking to boost support for the project, which would connect Dallas and Houston, Texas. According to an exclusive report by Reuters, the president was expected to bring up the rail project when meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio last week.

On Wednesday, the same day as the meeting of the two world leaders, the White House released a briefing fact sheet detailing the conversation. Specifically, it explained that the American Department of Transportation reached an agreement with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Their partnership allows passenger rail operator Amtrak to head the Texas Central High Speed Rail Project, which will be accomplished “utilizing Shinkansen technologies,” otherwise known as bullet trains.

The White House stated that “successful completion” of the project’s “development efforts” is hoped to lead to “future funding and financing opportunities.” The long-discussed project is estimated to cost between $25 billion and $30 billion and is intended to increase cash in the private and public sectors.

However, it could still be challenged both in the state and federal legislatures as using public funds for rail projects and climate-friendly endeavors has left lawmakers divided over previous proposals.

If approved, though, the railway would be constructed and run by Amtrak and Texas Central Partners. It would run 240 miles between the two Lone Star State cities and is anticipated to reduce travel time between the destinations from a three-and-a-half-hour car drive to an hour and a half train trip.
The project would be financially supported by Japanese lenders such as the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. The bullet trains to be used would be provided by the Central Japan Railway.
