(TrueTrendNews.com) – As Republicans in the House of Representatives continue in their struggle to get along, another legislator has called to remove the sitting House Speaker.
Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie has voiced support for Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in her efforts to overthrow Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson from the role of Speaker of the House, a position he has held since October 2023.
Massie reportedly suggested to the Republican conference that Johnson be replaced and stated he would implement a motion to vacate on the House floor if the Speaker did not resign. Greene and her new supporter are the only two who have called for Johnson to be ousted and as shared by Republican conference members, Massie’s recent suggestion was met with backlash from most of the party.
Additionally, some Democratic representatives have suggested they will come to Johnson’s defense to avoid the legislature needing to repeat the inefficient process of replacing former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was removed from the position in the fall after a motion to vacate was issued.
Massie has told the media that he disagrees with some of Johnson’s stances, including his support for providing aid to Ukraine during its ongoing war with Russia and a controversial intelligence bill that many conservatives fear will lead to warrantless spying on American citizens.
Referring to the highly scrutinized and lengthy process of replacing McCarthy after he was voted out of the position, Massie said that Johnson is the “only person” who can prevent that piece of history from repeating. He also criticized the House leader for “cleaning the barn” with his perceived efforts to increase spending, support Ukraine, and pass the FISA reauthorization bill.
Massie declared that a call for Johnson’s resignation would result in a “a lot of people” voting in favor of it but hinted that he would likely not bring forward the motion himself.
