(TrueTrendNews.com) – A man suspected of crashing a stolen trailer truck into a Texas government office has been charged.
Clenard Parker was recently dealt a number of charges for his suspected involvement in driving an 18-wheeler into an office building of the Lone Star State’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). The crash injured 13 people and killed one. Parker’s bail has been set at $2 million.
According to digital records from the Washington County Jail, the 42-year-old suspect has been booked on various charges, including evading arrest, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. The incident took place in Brenham, Texas, on Friday April 12, shortly before noon.
According to authorities, the truck Parker was driving “took a hard right turn” before colliding into the building. He was arrested at the scene by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The facility into which he drove is responsible for motor vehicle services, including issuing driver’s licenses.
The crash reportedly occurred one day after Parker himself had visited the DPS building in Brenham, which is between the cities of Houston and Austin. According to a local Fox News affiliate, DPS Sgt. Justin Ruiz explained that the suspect had been told while at the facility that he “was not eligible” to have his commercial driver license renewed.
Since the crash, the Brenham office has been closed, and Texas Rangers are leading an investigation into the matter. The incident has received commentary from state leaders.
Sen. Lois Kolkhorst wrote on X that the available information has so far led her to believe that the crash was “an intentional act of violence” committed “against innocent citizens” and those who work at the DPS office. She also reiterated her determination to prosecute Parker “the fullest extent of the law.”
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott also reacted to the news, urging fellow Texans to “join us in praying” for the individual who died in the crash as well as those injured and their families and friends.
